“The Book of Job” by Bliss Knapp, CSB

This brief article, written by Bliss Knapp, but never published, was popular amongst his students.

In addition, there is a Bible Lesson on the Subject of “Ancient and Modern Necromancy, Alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced”, which was prepared by Mr. Knapp while he served on the Bible Lesson Committee.  The Lesson was based on the book of Job.

Both the article and the Bible Lesson citations are included in the pdf file.

Excerpt from “The Book of Job” (pdf)

The Book of Job is a drama woven around the subject of Job’s goodness.  Satan (error) claimed that Job was good because of all the prosperity and rewards he had.  So the Lord is supposed to have allowed Satan to strip Job of all his prosperity to test whether Job’s goodness was merely the result of his rewards, or a real quality from God, which would continue in the midst of adversity.

1945 Association References

These references were from the Bliss Knapp, CSB, 1945 Association.  Knapp gave these references at a time when some members of his Association faced untimely deaths and others were overcome with grief.  He suggested they read these citations each week to heal grief but also for protection. Excerpt:

SECTION I

At a time when Mary Baker Eddy was in great need, she turned to her Bible and read again how the palsied man was healed by Jesus.  This time the healing Truth dawned upon her, because she grasped its spiritual meaning.  She had discovered that Life is not in the body, but “in and of Spirit.”
